What is Detrusitol?
Detrusitol containing the active ingredient tolterodine L-tartrate is considered an anticholinergic or antimuscarinic muscle relaxant type of medication. The medication works by relaxing the involuntary muscle that is found in the wall of the bladder to improve the ability to control urination. It is used to control conditions of an overactive bladder such as involuntary leakage of urine (urinary incontinence), the frequency of urination and urinary urgency.
How is Detrusitol used?
Detrusitol is usually taken orally twice per day or as directed by a doctor. The medication can be taken with or without food but should be taken with a glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. Do not split, chew or crush the tablets prior to consumption as it will cause too much of the drug from being released at one time.
Adverse effects
Patients using Detrusitol may encounter side effects such as:
- Dry mouth or eyes
- Headaches
