What is Diprosone Cream?
Diprosone Cream with the active ingredient betamethasone dipropionate belongs to a group of medicine called topical corticosteroids. It works by acting inside the cells in the body to decrease the amount of inflammatory substances to reduce swelling, redness, dryness, itching, and various skin conditions. It is mainly prescribed to treat allergic disorders, lupus, eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis and arthritis.
How is Diprosone Cream used?
Diprosone Cream should only be applied topically usually 1 to 4 times or as directed by a doctor. Before applying the cream, wash and dry your hands and the affected area. Apply a thin layer of the cream to the affected area and rub it in gently. Protect the area from washing, rubbing and let the area dry naturally unless directed to do so by your doctor. Wash your hands immediately after applying the cream unless it is the area you are treating.
Adverse effects
Diprosone Cream may cause unwanted side effects such as:
- Drying or cracking of the skin
- Acne
- Itching
- Burning
- Change of skin color
- Stretch marks
- Skin thinning
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Unwanted hair growth
- Folliculitis
- Vision problems
- Skin infection
- Rapid weight gain
- Severe skin rash
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
Warnings
The medication also should not be used long term on the face, genitals, skin creases or armpits unless directed by your doctor.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Diprosone Cream is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
