What is Ebixa?
Ebixa containing the active ingredient memantine is used to treat moderate to severe dementia related to Alzheimer’s disease. It works on the activity on the brain to help improve memory, awareness and ability to perform daily functions. The medication can be used to treat Alzheimer’s disease but cannot be used as a cure for the disease.
How is Ebixa used?
Ebixa is usually taken once or twice daily and can be taken with or without food. Contact a doctor for correct dosage as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the medication. Always use the syringe supplied with the bottle to measure the correct dosage of the solution as a household measuring device may not always give the correct dosage. Swallow the solution directly from the syringe without mixing it with any water or other liquids. Rinse and air dry the syringe with water after every use.
Adverse effects
Patients using Ebixa may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Dizziness
- Constipation
- Headaches
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Drowsiness
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Confusion
- Hallucinations
- Lack of coordination
- Seizures
- Irregular heartbeat
- Jaundice
- Shortness of breath
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Ebixa is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed. |
