What is Epivir Oral Solution?
Epivir is used along with other medications in the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. The active ingredient lamivudine is classified as a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) type of medication. It works by helping decrease the amount of HIV in the body and allowing the immune system to function better. It will lower the chance of complications such as cancer and new infections to improve your quality of life.
How is Epivir Oral Solution used?
Epivir should be taken as directed by a doctor, usually 1 to 2 times per day spread out in even intervals. The tablet can be taken with or without food but should be taken with some fluids. Contact a doctor for correct dosage as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their reaction to the medication. The solution should be measured with a special measuring device or spoon and should not be taken with a household spoon to ensure the correct dosage is administered. The medication can be used to treat HIV but cannot be used as a cure or decrease the risk of spreading the virus to others.
