What is Eryacne Gel?
Eryacne Gel containing the active ingredient erythromycin is considered a macrolide antibiotic type of medication. It works by reducing the production of certain important proteins needed by bacteria to survive as well as slowing the growth of the bacteria to allow the immune system to kill off the bacteria. The medication is prescribed to reduce the number of pimples in the treatment of acne.
How is Eryacne Gel used?
Eryacne Gel is usually applied to the face twice daily unless otherwise advised by a doctor. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. Wash and dry your hands and the affected area prior to applying the medication. Spread a thin layer of the gel to the area where spots occur and gently massage it in until it disappears. Wash your hands immediately after applying the medication.
Adverse effects
Patients using Eryacne Gel may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Irritation, itching or redness at application site
- Dry or peeling skin
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or worsen.
Warnings
The medication can be used to treat bacterial infections but cannot be used to treat fungal infections.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Eryacne Gel is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
