What is Fabulas?
Fabulas with the active ingredient febuxostat is classified as a xanthine oxidase inhibitor used to prevent acute gout attacks. Gout occurs when there is a high level of uric acid in the bloodstream that builds up in the joints causing attacks of inflammation, redness and pain. The medication works by decreasing the amount of uric acid produced by the body to prevent the build up in the joints.
How is Fabulas used?
Fabulas should be taken orally as directed by a doctor, usually once each day. The tablets can be taken with or without food but should be taken with plenty of water. Dosage will depend on the patient’s condition and their reaction to the medication, contact a doctor for the correct dosage. Your doctor may order regular blood testing to test your uric acid levels. The treatment can be used to prevent gout attacks but cannot be used to treat them once they occur.
Adverse effects
Fabulas may cause unwanted side effects in patients such as:
- Nausea
- Joint pain
- Headaches
- Diarrhea
- Dizziness
- Mild skin rash
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Chest pain
- Sudden numbness on one side of the body
- Confusion
- Vision impairment
- Dark urine or stools
- Jaundice
- Fainting
- Insomnia
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Fabulas is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed. |
