What is Flixonase Nasal Spray?
Flixonase Nasal Spray containing the active ingredient fluticasone propionate is a corticosteroid that reduces swelling and inflammation in the nasal passage. It works by preventing the immune system from releasing certain chemicals when coming into contact with allergens such as pollen, dust mites or pet fur. The medication is used to prevent and relieve seasonal (hay fever) and perennial allergic rhinitis symptoms such as an itchy nose, stuffy nose, runny nose and sneezing.
How is Flixonase Nasal Spray used?
Flixonase Nasal Spray is usually sprayed in each nostril 1 to 2 times per day, typically once in the morning and once at night. Prior to the initial dose or if the spray has not been used for 5 days, the spray will need to be primed before use. To prime bottle, shake the bottle gently and simply point the nozzle away from the face and pump the spray into the air 4 to 5 times. To apply to nasal, close 1 nostril with a finger and pump the spray while inhaling with the other nostril. Dosage depends on the patient's condition and reaction to the medication, it is not recommended to apply more or less than the prescribed dosage, contact a doctor for the correct dosage.
Adverse effects
Flixonase Nasal Spray may cause side effects such as:
- Nausea
- Dry nose
- Vomiting
- Nosebleed
- Headache
- Dizziness
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Vision problems
- White patches or sores in nsoe or throat
- Slow healing wounds
- Severe or ongoing nosebleeds
- Flu like symptoms
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Flixonase Nasal Spray is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
