What is Flixotide Accuhaler?
The Flixotide Accuhaler contains the active ingredient fluticasone propionate which works by decreasing the amount of chemicals produced by the body that cause inflammation. The corticosteroid type of medication has the ability to allow for easier breathing by reducing inflammation in the passages leading to the lungs as well as in the lung itself. It is used to prevent and treat chest tightness, difficulty breathing, wheezing and coughing caused by asthma. Some people may also use the medication to treat ongoing lung diseases such as emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and chronic bronchitis.
How is Flixotide Accuhaler used?
The Flixotide Accuhaler should be used as directed by a doctor, usually twice per day. Dosage will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy, contact a doctor for the correct dosage. Make sure the inhaler is held at a level and flat position when administering the spray. Inhale each dose deeply to ensure the right amount of the drug goes into your lungs. If the patient requires additional doses, it is recommended to wait at least 1 minute between doses.
Adverse effects
Patients prescribed Flixotide Accuhaler may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Dry mouth
- Difficulty speaking
- Headaches
- Painful white patches in mouth
- Throat irritation
- Oral thrush
- Hoarseness
- Acne
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Signs of infection
- Easy bruising or bleeding
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Mental or mood changes
- Muscle weakness
- Sudden worsening of symptoms
- Vision problems
Warnings
The accuhaler is a long term preventative and treatment for asthma and should not be used during an asthma attack. Rinse your mouth with water after using the inhaler to prevent irritation and oral thrush I the mouth or throat. Always spit out the water after rinsing.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Flixotide Accuhaler is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
