What is Flonida 1% Cream?
Flonida Cream containing the active ingredient fluorouracil is considered an antimetabolites type of medication. It works by interfering with the growth of skin cells and causing the death of abnormal skin cells that grow fast. The medication can destroy cancer cells and cells which may become cancerous and is used in the treatment of superficial basal cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer. The cream can also be used to treat actinic or solar keratoses, a condition where years of excessive exposure to sunlight can cause scaly or crusted skin areas.
How is Flonida 1% Cream used?
Flonida Cream is usually applied topically once or twice per day or as advised by a doctor. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient’s response to the therapy. Prior to applying the medication, wash and dry your hands and the affected area. Wait 10 minutes, then apply a thin layer of the cream to the affected skin with your fingertips and gently massage it in until it disappears. Wash your hands immediately after applying the medication.
Adverse effects
Patients using Flonida Cream may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Irritation, burning or redness at application site
- Dry, flaking or peeling skin
- Swelling and inflammation of the skin
- Photosensitivity
- Skin discoloration
- Eye irritation
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persists or worsen.
Warnings
The cream should not be applied to the eyes, mouth, open cuts or broken skin as it may be absorbed in the bloodstream and could cause side effects.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Flonida 1% Cream is not always suitable for all patients.
