What is Furosemido?
Furosemido containing the active ingredient furosemide is considered a loop diuretic or water pill type of medication. The medication will cause the kidneys to get rid of unneeded water and salt from the body by passing it through urine. It can reduce swelling and fluid retention caused by various conditions such as congestive heart failure, liver disease or kidney disorders. Some people may also use the medication to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). Treating hypertension can help decrease the risk of heart attacks or strokes.
How is Furosemido used?
Furosemido is usually taken 1 to 2 times per day or as directed by a doctor. The tablets can be taken with or without food but should be taken with some water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. It is not recommended to take the medication within 4 hours of bedtime to prevent waking up in the night to urinate.
Adverse effects
Patients using Furosemido may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Dizziness
- Headaches
- Constipation
- Diarrhea
- Stomach pain
- Blurred vision
- Ringing in the ears or hearing loss
- Rapid or excessive weight loss
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or worsen.
Warnings
The medication can be used to treat hypertension but cannot be used to cure the condition.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Furosemido is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed. |
