What is Genox-10?
Genox containing the active ingredient tamoxifen citrate is an anti-oestrogen hormone antagonist type of medication. It works by blocking the activity of the hormone estrogen in the breast to stop the growth of some tumors that need estrogen to grow. The medication can be used along with surgery, chemotherapy or radiotherapy to treat breast cancer that has spread to other part of the body or to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer in patients with high risk of the disease.
How is Genox-10 used?
Genox is usually taken orally 1 to 2 times per day for up to 5 years or as directed by a doctor. The medication can be taken with or without food but should be taken with a full glass of water. Dosage and length of treatment will depend on the condition of the patient and their response to the therapy, contact a doctor for the correct dosage. The tablets should be swallowed whole and not split, chewed or crushed.
Adverse effects
Patients using Genox may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Hot flushes
- Nausea
- Headaches
- Thinning hair
- Dizziness
- Vaginal itching, dryness or discharge
- Decreased sex drive or performance
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Vision changes
- Mental or mood changes
- Easy bleeding or bruising
- Jaundice
- Loss of appetite
- Muscle weakness
- Bone, joint or tumor pain
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Genox-10 is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
