What is Genox-20?
Genox works by blocking the activity of the hormone estrogen in the breast to stop the growth of certain tumors that require estrogen to grow. The active ingredient tamoxifen citrate belongs to a class of medication called anti-oestrogen hormone antagonists. The medication can be used along with radiotherapy, chemotherapy or surgery to treat breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body or to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer in patients with high risk of the disease.
How is Genox-20 used?
Genox should be taken exactly as directed by a doctor, usually 1 to 2 times per day for as long as 5 years. The medication should be taken with a full glass of water but can be taken with or without food. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the condition of the patient and their response to the therapy. The tablets should be swallowed whole and not crushed, chewed or split.
Adverse effects
Genox may cause unwanted side effects such as:
- Decreased sex drive or performance
- Vaginal itching, dryness or discharge
- Dizziness
- Thinning hair
- Headaches
- Nausea
- Hot flushes
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Bone, joint or tumor pain
- Muscle weakness
- Loss of appetite
- Jaundice
- Easy bleeding or bruising
- Mental or mood changes
- Vision changes
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Genox-20 is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
