What is Glucobay?
Glucobay works by slowing the action of certain chemicals that break down food to release glucose in your blood. The active ingredient acarbose can help treat type 2 diabetes when used in combination with a regular exercise program and proper diet. Controlling high blood sugar levels can help prevent nerve problems, kidney damage, blindness and sexual function problems. Proper control of diabetes can also help decrease the risk of strokes and heart attacks.
How is Glucobay used?
Glucobay should be taken as directed by a doctor, usually 3 times per day. It is usually taken with the first bite of each main meal along with some water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their reaction to the treatment. For the optimal dose, your doctor may start you on a low dosage and gradually increase your dose. Continue to check your blood sugar levels regularly to monitor the effectiveness of the medication.
