What is Glucobay?
Glucobay containing the active ingredient acarbose is considered an antidiabetic type of medication. It works by slowing the action of certain chemicals that break down food to help keep glucose from rising very high after meals. Controlling high blood sugar levels can help prevent kidney damage, nerve problems, vision problems, sexual function problems and loss of limbs. It is used along with a proper diet and exercise program to treat patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Proper control of diabetes may reduce the risk of a heart attack or stroke.
How is Glucobay used?
Glucobay is usually taken orally 3 times per day or as directed by a doctor. The tablets should be taken with the first bite of each main meal along with some water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the medication. The doctor may prescribe a low initial dose, gradually increasing to the optimal dosage.
