What is Gopten?
Gopten works by relaxing the blood vessels, causing them to widen and allow for easier blood flow which lets the heart pump blood more efficiently. The active ingredient trandolapril is classified as an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor type of medication. It can be used with other drugs or alone to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) which helps prevent kidney problems, strokes and heart attacks. Some patients with prior heart problems may also use the medication to improve survival after a heart attack.
How is Gopten used?
Gopten should be taken as directed by a doctor, usually once or twice daily. The capsules can be taken with or without food but should be taken with some water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the condition of the patient as well as their reaction to the therapy. The capsules should be swallowed whole and not chewed, cut or crushed to prevent too much of the medication from being released at one time. Do not discontinue the medication without contacting a doctor even if you feel your condition has improved as high blood pressure generally has no visible symptoms. The medication can be used to treat hypertension but cannot be used as a cure for the condition.
Adverse effects
Gopten may cause unwanted side effects such as:
- Constipation
- Upset stomach
- Insomnia
- Headaches
- Drowsiness
- Muscle pain
- Coughing
- Diarrhea
- Dizziness
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- High potassium blood level
- Unusual bleeding or bruising
- Chest pain
- Jaundice
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Irregular heartbeat
- Decreased sex drive or performance
- Fainting
Warnings
Do not take the medication if you are pregnant as it may cause potentially fatal harm to the fetus.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Gopten is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed. |
