What is Graniset?
Graniset containing the active ingredient granisetron is considered a 5HT3 antagonist type of medication used as an antiemetic. The tablets work by blocking the action of serotonin in the body, a natural substance which cause nausea and vomiting. It is mainly prescribed to prevent nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing chemotherapy, radiation therapy or after surgery.
How is Graniset used?
Graniset should always be taken orally as directed by a doctor. It is usually taken 1 hour prior to chemotherapy or radiotherapy. The medication can be taken with or without food but should be taken with a full glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. The tablets should be swallowed whole and not broken, chewed or crushed prior to consumption.
Adverse effects
Patients using Graniset may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Headaches
- Constipation
- Insomnia
- Diarrhea
- Stomach pain
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Drowsiness
- Anxiety

Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Graniset is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
