What is IRBECOR?
Irbecor containing the active ingredient irbesartan is considered an angiotensin II receptor antagonist type of medication. The medication works by blocking certain substances that cause the blood vessels to narrow which can help relax the blood vessels and allow blood to flow easier. Improving blood flow to allow the heart to pump blood more efficiently will help lower blood pressure and treat hypertension (high blood pressure). Monitoring and keeping your blood pressure in check will decrease the risk of future heart attacks and strokes. Some patients may also use the tablets to treat kidney problems caused by type 2 diabetes.
How is IRBECOR used?
Irbecor is usually taken orally once per day unless otherwise directed by a doctor. The tablets can be taken with or without food but should be taken with a glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. The doctor may request frequent blood pressure exams to monitor the patient’s condition and adjust their dosage. Do not discontinue with the treatment without consulting a doctor as hypertension generally has no visible symptoms.
Adverse effects
Patients using Irbecor may encounter unwanted side effects such as:

- Diarrhea
- Dizziness
- Vomiting
- Excessive fatigue
- Upset stomach
- Loss of appetite
- Weight gain
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or worsen.
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
IRBECOR is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
