What is Imiquad Cream?
Imiquad Cream containing the active ingredient imiquimod is considered an immune response modifier type of medication. The cream works by activating and increasing the activity of the body’s immune system. It can be used to treat a condition caused by too much sun exposure called actinic keratoses and a type of skin cancer called superficial basal cell carcinoma. Some people may also use the medication to treat genital warts on the outside of the anus.
How is Imiquad Cream used?
Imiquad Cream is usually applied topically once per day 2 to 5 times per week. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient’s response to the therapy. Prior to applying the cream, wash your hands and the affected area with mild soap and water. Rub a thin layer of the cream on the area to be treated and massage it in until it disappears. Wash your hands immediately after applying the medication unless the hands are the treated area.
Adverse effects
Patients using Imiquad Cream may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Redness, swollen, itching or burning skin
- Pain or tenderness at application site
- Thickening or hardening of the skin
- Flaking, scabbing or crusting skin
- Change in skin color
- Headaches
- Dizziness of lightheadedness
- Formations of sores, blisters or ulcers
- Flu like symptoms
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or worsen.
Warnings
The medication should not be used on children under 12 years of age unless specifically directed by a doctor.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Imiquad Cream is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed. |
