What is Infacol Oral Suspension?
Infacol Oral Suspension containing the active ingredient simethicone belongs to a class of medications called anti-foaming agents. The medication works by collecting small bubbles of gas that are trapped in the stomach and intestines to form larger bubbles that are more easily expelled by infants. It is used to relieve abdominal pain (gripe, colic or wind) caused by the infant swallowing air by allowing the trapped air to be passed by burping or passing wind.
How is Infacol Oral Suspension used?
Infacol Oral Suspension is given orally to the infant after every meal and at bedtime. The suspension can be dropped directly into the baby’s mouth or mixed with 1 ounce of cool water, infant formula or juice to feed the infant. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the child’s age, weight and their response to the therapy. It is not recommended to give the child more than 12 does per day.
Adverse effects
Infacol Oral Suspension is generally very well tolerated with no known side effects. Contact a doctor immediately should you notice any irregularities in the infant.
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Infacol Oral Suspension is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
