What is Intal?
Intal is an anti-inflammatory medication that prevents the body from producing histamine and causing allergic reactions. It can be used to treat asthma symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath and trouble breathing caused by allergic reactions to allergens like dust mites, animal fur and insect bites. It can also be used to prevent bronchospasm caused by exercise, dry, cold or pollutants in the air and exposure to certain chemicals.
How is Intal used?
Intal capsules must be taken with the special Intal Spin Haler. It is usually inhaled orally 4 times daily to treat asthma symptoms. For preventative treatment against breathing problems caused by exercise it should be administered 10 to 15 minutes prior to exercising. Dosage depends on patient’s usage and reaction to the medication, contact a doctor for correct dosage. To use the inhaler, shake the inhaler, remove cap and place mouth piece in mouth. Close lips around the mouth piece, tilt head back, pump the inhaler and hold breath for several seconds before exhaling.
Adverse effects
Patients using Intal may encounter side effects such as:
- Nosebleed
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Drowsiness
- Headache
- Unpleasant taste in mouth
- Cough
- Throat irritation
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Chest tightness
- Wheezing
- Increased difficulty breathing
- Swollen glands
- Joint pain
- Muscle weakness
Warnings
It is a long term control and preventative treatment for asthma and should not be used in an asthma attack. For an asthma attack use a fast acting asthma medication.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Intal is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed. |
