What is Ipakitine? Ipakitine (Calcium Carbonate/Chitosan) is a palatable, easy to administer and cost effective was to increase life span and improve quality of life in pets with kidney failure or chronic kidney disease (CKD). Pets with kideny problems can benefit from a reduction of phophates. Ipakitine binds to phosphates which reduces the absorption of phosphates from the intestines. Ipakitine also reduces the absorption of some uraemic toxins that can affect kidney function.
How is Ipakitine used? Your vet will prescribe a suitable dosage for you pet. The most common dosage is 1g (one level scoop) per 5kg of body weight per day.
Ipakitine should be mixed with the pet's food. If your pet eats dry food, the food should be moistened slightly to assist in adhesion.
Adverse effects No side effects have been reported with Ipakitine.
