What is Ixel?
Ixel is a serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) that works by restoring the balance of certain natural substances in the brain. The medication is mainly used to treat a chronic pain disorder called fibromyalgia but can also be used to treat major depressive disorder. It will treat conditions such as muscles, tendons, ligaments and tissue pain.
How is Ixel used?
Ixel is a medication to be taken orally usually 2 times per day. The medication can be taken with or without food but to prevent nausea, it is advised to take the medication with food. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their reaction to the medication. It is not recommended to discontinue the treatment without consulting a doctor as abruptly stopping the medication may cause severe withdrawal symptoms such as mood swings, headaches, sleep changes and fatigue.
Adverse effects
Ixel may cause side effects in patients such as:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Dry mouth
- Constipation
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Hot flashes
- Decreased sex drive or performance
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Seizures
- Jaundice
- Abdominal pain
- Dark or bloody stool
- Hallucinations
- Hypertension
Warnings
The medication should not be used with any monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) as it may cause a chemical reaction. Consuming alcohol while on the medication may increase the chance of liver damage.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Ixel is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed. |
