What is Ixel?
Ixel is a medication used to treat a chronic pain disorder called fibromyalgia and major depressive disorder. It will help relieve pain in patients with tissue, muscles, tendons and ligament pain. The active ingredient milnacipran works by restoring the balance of certain natural substances in the brain and is considered a serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI).
How is Ixel used?
Ixel is an orally consumed medication usually taken 2 times per day. Taking the medication along with a snack or meal can prevent an upset stomach. Dosage will depend on the patient’s condition and their reaction to the medication, contact a doctor for the correct dosage. Abruptly stopping the medication without consulting a doctor may result in severe withdrawal symptoms such as fatigue, sleep changes, headaches and mood swings.
Adverse effects
Patients using Ixel may encounter side effects such as:
- Decreased sex drive or performance
- Hot flashes
- Headaches
- Dizziness
- Constipation
- Dry mouth
- Vomiting
- Nausea
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Hypertension
- Hallucinations
- Dark or bloody stool
- Abdominal pain
- Jaundice
- Seizures
Warnings
The medication should not be used with any monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) as it may cause a chemical reaction. Consuming alcohol while on the medication may increase the chance of liver damage.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Ixel is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
