What is Karvea?
Karvea works by blocking the action of certain natural substances that tighten the blood vessels to allow blood to flow more smoothly and the heart to pump more efficiently. The active ingredient irbesartan belongs to a group of medications called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. It can be used alone or along with other medication to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and prevent strokes or heart attacks. Patients with type 2 diabetes may also use the medication to treat kidney diseases.
How is Karvea used?
Karvea should be taken orally as directed by a doctor, usually once per day. The tablets can be taken with or without food along with some fluids. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the condition of the patient as well as their response to the medication. Do not discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor, even if you feel better, as symptoms of high blood pressure cannot easily be seen. The medication can be used to treat hypertension but cannot be used to cure the condition.
Adverse effects
Karvea may cause unwanted side effects such as:
- Vomiting
- Lightheadedness
- Heartburn
- Fatigue
- Diarrhea
- Upset stomach
- Dizziness
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Jaundice
- Decreased sex drive or performance
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Confusion
- Mental or mood changes
- Unusual decrease in amount of urine
- Irregular heartbeat
- High blood potassium level
Warnings
Pregnant women should not use the medication as it may cause serious and even potentially fatal harm to the fetus.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Karvea is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed. |
