What is Kenadion?
Kenadion contains the active ingredient Phytomenadione, also known as Vitamin K1. This is aman-made verison of Vitamin K, and important factor in blood clotting. Some people who require anticoagulants (eg. Warfarin) can have trouble with their blood clotting. Kenadion is a procoagulant factor which can provide more effective clotting. It is also very useful for patients on coagulants who are about to have surgery. Some people with bone formation difficulties are also prescribed Phytomenadione.
How is Kenadion used?
Kenadion (Phytomenadione) must be injected by a doctor or a nurse. It is not recommended to self-administer. The dosage you will be prescribed will depend on the reason for taking Phytomenadione and the severity of the situation.
Adverse effects
The most common side effect of Phytomenadione is an irritation or other allergic-type reacion. Other than that it is very well tolerated.
Warnings
If you are pregnant, you should not take Phytomenadione - there is risk of damage to fetus. If you are breast-feeding, there is a possibility the drug may be passed through the breast milk to the infant. Advise your doctor of any medications you are taking as Other medications may cause an adverse reaction with Phytomenadione, or vice versa. Tell your doctor of any medicine you are taking.
