What is Kliovance?
Kliovance is used as a hormone replacement supplement for menopausal women who suffer from falling levels of estrogen and the symptoms caused by this, such as vaginal dryness, difficulty sleeping, and hot flushes. This type of treatment, known as HRT (hormone replacement therapy), is generally only used for short term relief from menopausal symptoms. It can also be used to help reduce the risk of bone fracture for women suffering from osteoporosis.
How is Kliovance used?
Kliovance should be taken only as directed by your health care provider. One tablet is usually taken daily with a glass of water to wash it down. For best results, dosing should be done as close to the same time each day as possible. It is important to stick to your course of medication and not miss any dosing. Patients who wish to stop taking this medication are advised to consult their health care provider to discuss the effects of stopping the treatment, and the best method to go about doing it.
Adverse effects
Common adverse effects experienced by patients taking Kliovance include vaginal bleeding and breast pain. Less common adverse effects which have been reported by patients taking this drug include:
- Vaginal thrush
- Swollen limbs
- Migraine
- Weight gain
- Back pain
There are also other rare but serious adverse effects associated with taking this medication, such as blood clots, visual disturbances, greasy skin, and an increased risk of dementia and breast cancer.
Warnings
Under no circumstances should Kliovance be taken by pregnant women, women who are breastfeeding, or women trying to conceive a child.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Kliovance is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems, especially heart problems.
