What is Levoquin-500?
Levoquin works by stopping the growth of bacteria to allow the immune system to kill the bacteria that is causing an infection in the body. The active ingredient levofloxacin is considered a fluoroquinolones type of medication. The medication can be used to treat a variety of bacterial infections such as sinusitis, chronic bronchitis, pneumonia as well as skin, prostate, kidney and urinary tract infections. It can be used to treat bacterial infections but cannot be used to treat viral infections such as the common cold or flu.
How is Levoquin-500 used?
Levoquin should only be used as directed by a doctor, usually once per day. The medication can be taken with or without food but should be taken with plenty of water throughout the treatment. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. Always complete the dosage you have been prescribed as abruptly stopping the treatment may cause the infection to return and the bacteria to become harder to treat.
