What is METORAL 5?
Metoral is a thiazide type diuretic used primarily to treat hypertension and reduce the risk of associated conditions such as congestive heart failure, heart attack, stroke, and kidney problems. It also reduces fluid retention and swelling resulted from heart or kidney disease. It works by reducing the amount of water reabsorbed by the kidney into the bloodstream, and as a result lowering blood pressure
How is METORAL 5 used?
Always use as directed by your health care provider. Never change your dosage, start, or stop using Metoral unless advised by your health care provider. Dosage will vary dependent upon the condition and the patient being treated. It is important to stick to the course of medication prescribed by your health care provider even if you feel well. Metoral is to be taken orally, with or without food. It is usually taken once daily in the morning or afternoon to avoid needing to wake up at night to urinate.
Adverse effects
The following side effects are usually mild, requiring no medical attention. If any persist, worsen, or become bothersome, inform your health care provider.
- Headaches
- Stomach pains
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Hair loss
- Dizziness
- Blurred vision
Contact your health care provider as soon as possible if you experience any of the following more serious side effects.
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Abnormal bleeding or bruising
- Sore throat with a fever
- Chest pains
- Yellowing of the eyes or skin
- Muscle cramps
- Confusion
- Decreased sexual ability
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
METORAL 5 is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
