What is MESACOL 400?
Mesacol containing the active ingredient mesalamine belongs to a type of medication called aminosalicylates. The medication works by reducing the amounts of certain natural substances that cause inflammation from being produced. It can be used in the prevention and treatment of various symptoms of mild to moderate ulcerative colitis such as stomach pain, diarrhea and rectal bleeding. Some people may also use the tablets to treat Crohn’s disease, a condition that causes inflammation of any part of the gastro-intestinal system.
How is MESACOL 400 used?
Mesacol is usually taken orally 3 to 4 times per day or as directed by a doctor. To prevent an upset stomach, take the tablets with some food and a full glass of water or a glass of milk. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. The tablets should be swallowed whole and not crushed, chewed or broken prior to consumption to prevent too much of the medication from being released at once.
