What is Naprosyn SR?
Naprosyn SR is used to treat signs of osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and rheumatoid arthritis. The active ingredient naproxen is considered a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to stop the production of certain natural substances that can cause fevers, pain and inflammation. Some people may also use the drug to treat bursitis, menstrual cramps, tendinitis and acute gout.
How is Naprosyn SR used?
Naprosyn SR is a tablet that should be taken along with some food and a full glass of water to prevent an upset stomach. It should be taken as directed by your doctor, usually once per day. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. The sustained release tablets should be swallowed whole and not crushed, broken or chewed to prevent too much of the drug from being released at one time. For patients who are prescribed a lengthy treatment period, your doctor may order regular checkups to ensure the medication is not causing harmful effects.
