What is Nasonex Nasal Spray?
Nasonex Nasal Spray containing the active ingredient mometasone is considered a corticosteroid type of medication. The medication works by preventing the release of the natural chemical histamine in the body when coming into contact with irritants such as pollen, pet fur and dust mites to prevent inflammation in the nasal passages. It can be used to prevent and treat symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, stuffy nose and an itchy nose caused by seasonal allergies such as hay fever or other year round allergies. Some people may also use the medication to treat growths in the nose (nasal polyps).
How is Nasonex Nasal Spray used?
Nasonex Nasal Spray is usually inhaled through the nose 1 to 2 times per day or as advised by a doctor. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient's condition and their response to the therapy. Do not skip a day even if symptoms seem to be under control. The medication does not work immediately, it may take up to 2 weeks before the full benefits of the drug takes effect.
You will need to prime the pump spray before the initial dose and if the pump spray has not been used in over 7 days. Prior to using the inhaler, gently blow your nose to clear the nostrils. Close 1 nostril and tilt the head forward slightly while inserting the applicator into the other nostril. Press down firmly on the applicator to release the spray. Breathe inward through the nostril and breathe out through the mouth. Repeat as necessary for additional doses in each nostril.
