What is Neo-Mercazole?
Neo-Mercazole can be used to lower production from an overactive thyroid gland to restore normal levels of hormones in the body. The active ingredient carbimazole is an anti-thyroid agent type of medication used to treat hyperthyroidism. It is important to treat hyperthyroidism as it may cause symptoms such as menstrual problems, weight loss, excessive sweating, irritable feelings, diarrhea and excess fatigue. Some patients may also use it to prepare for radio-iodine treatment and the partial removal of the thyroid via surgery (thyroidectomy).
How is Neo-Mercazole used?
Neo-Mercazole should only be taken as directed by a doctor, usually 2 to 3 times per day. The medication can be taken with or without food with a glass of water but should be taken the same way each time. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. To determine whether the treatment is effective, your health care provider may request occasional blood tests
Adverse effects
Side effects are unusual whilst using Neo-Mercazole, but the following are the most common. Usually they will not require any medical attention, however if they become bothersome you should consult your health care provider.
- Nausea
- Headaches
- Aching Joints
- Rashes
- Itching
Seek immediate medical attention if any of the following occur.
- Yellowing of the skin or eyes
- Frequent infections
- Tiredness, dizziness, headaches, paleness.
- Difficulty breathing
- Bruising or bleeding easier than usual
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Neo-Mercazole is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed. |
