What is Niflan?
Niflan containing the active ingredient pranoprofen belongs to a class of medications called non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID). The medication can be used to inhibit prostaglandin formation in the eye which causes inflammation. The solution can be used to treat inflammation, keratitis, conjunctivitis and blepharitis after eye surgery.
How is Niflan used?
Niflan is usually dropped into the affected eye 4 times daily or as directed by a doctor. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient's condition and their response to the therapy. Prior to applying the medication, wash your hands with soap. Pull down the lower lid of the eye being treated to create a pouch and tilt the head up. Slowly squeeze 1 to 2 drops into the pouch and close your eyes for a few seconds without blinking. Place a finger on the inside corner of the eye at the tear ducts and gently apply pressure to prevent any leakage. Wait at least 5 minutes if you require use other eye drops at the same time.
Adverse effects
Patients using Niflan may cause unwanted side effects such as:
- Angle closure glaucoma
- Eye irritation
- Itching, redness or swelling in the eyelid
- Eye discharge
- Eye pain
- Sensitivity to light
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or worsen.
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Niflan is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed. |
