What is Nifuran?
Nifuran containing the active ingredient nitrofurantoin is in a class of medications called antibiotics. The medication works by stopping the growth and killing bacteria that cause infections. It is mainly prescribed to treat or prevent certain urinary tract infections. The tablets can be used to treat bacterial infections but does not work for viral infections such as the flu or common cold.
How is Nifuran used?
Nifuran is usually taken orally 1 to 4 times per day or as directed by a doctor. To prevent an upset stomach, take the medication with a meal along with a full glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. Continue taking the medication until the fully prescribed dose is complete, even if symptoms disappear after a few days, as abruptly stopping the treatment may cause the infection to return and allow the bacteria to become immune to the antibiotic.
