What is Nilstat Vaginal Cream?
Nilstat Vaginal Cream containing the active ingredient nystatin is considered an antifungal type of medication. The medication is used to treat fungus infections of the vagina called candidiasis or thrush. It works by killing the Candida fungus in the vagina and should not be used for treating any other infections in the body.
How is Nilstat Vaginal Cream used?
Nilstat Vaginal Cream is usually applied topically 1 to 2 times per day or as directed by a doctor. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. To apply the cream, screw the applicator onto the tube, squeeze the tube from the bottom forcing the cream into the cylinder and detach the applicator. Spread the vaginal lips apart with one hand, hold the applicator by the cylinder and gently insert it high into the vagina. Press the plunger and then with the plunger still depressed, remove the applicator from the vagina holding it by the cylinder. Wash the applicator with mild soap and water after each application.
Adverse effects
Nilstat Vaginal Cream is generally very well tolerated but may cause minor side effects such as:
- Vaginal burning or itching
- Irritation
- Diarrhea
- Nausea
- Vomiting
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or worsen.
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Nilstat Vaginal Cream is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
