What is Nizoral Cream?
Nizoral Cream containing the active ingredient ketoconazole belongs to a class of antifungal antibiotics called imidazoles. The cream works by slowing the growth of fungi that is causing an infection. The medication can be used to treat skin infections such as ringworms, jock itch, athlete’s foot as well as conditions such as seborrheic dermatitis and pityriasis versicolor.
How is Nizoral Cream used?
Nizoral Cream should be applied topically once per day for 2 to 6 weeks or as directed by a doctor. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient’s response to the therapy. Prior to applying the medication, wash and dry your hands and affected area thoroughly. Apply a thin film of the medication onto the affected area and gently massage it into the skin. It is recommended to avoid wrapping the treated area with dressing or wear tight clothing while using the cream.
Adverse effects
Patients using Nizoral Cream may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Stinging, irritation or redness at application site
- Headaches
- Dizziness
- Dry skin
- Burning sensation
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Decreased sex drive or performance
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or worsen.
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Nizoral Cream is not always suitable for all patients.
