What is Omez?
Omez containing the active ingredient omeprazole is considered a proton pump inhibitors (PPI) type of medication. The main function of the medicine is to decrease the production of acid in the stomach. It can be used to treat a condition where backward flow of excess acid from the stomach causes heartburn and possible injury of the esophagus called gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Decreasing the amount of acid produced can also promote faster healing of ulcers, erosive esophagitis and treat other conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
How is Omez used?
Omez is usually taken orally 1 to 2 times per day unless otherwise advised by a doctor. The medication should be taken at least 1 hour prior to a meal along with a full glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. The capsules should be swallowed whole and not broken, chewed or crushed to prevent too much of the drug from being released at one time.
