What is P-Carzine?
P-Carzine containing the active ingredient procarbazine is considered an alkylating agents type of medication. The medication should be taken along with other chemotherapy drugs to treat Hodgkin’s disease, a type of cancer of the lymph glands that affects the white blood cells that normally fights infection. It works by preventing cancer cells from growing and creating new cancer cells but may also prevent normal cells from growing as well. Some patients may also use the drug to treat brain tumors.
How is P-Carzine used?
P-Carzine should only be taken orally as directed by a doctor. The medication can be taken with or without food but should be washed down with a full glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition, weight and their response to the therapy. The capsules must be swallowed whole and not broken, crushed or chewed prior to consumption. Do not discontinue the therapy without consulting a doctor as abruptly stopping the treatment may cause severe withdrawal symptoms.
Adverse effects
Patients using P-Carzine may cause unwanted side effects such as:
- Loss of appetite
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Severe diarrhea
- Headaches
- Temporary hair loss
- Muscle or joint pain
- Neutropenia or thrombocytopenia
