What is Panacur Oral Paste?
Panacur Oral Paste containing the active ingredient fenbendazole is a ready to administer oral anthelmintic for domestic puppies, kittens, cats and dogs. The paste is used mainly for the treatment and control of immature and mature stages of nematodes of the gastro-intestinal and respiratory tracts. Some pet owners may use the medication to treat lungworms and it also has an ovicidal effect on nematode eggs.
How is Panacur Oral Paste used?
Panacur Oral Paste should be squeezed onto the back of the pet’s tongue after feeding 2 to 4 times per year or as advised by a veterinarian. Contact a veterinarian for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the pet’s weight, condition and their response to the therapy. The recommended dosage is 2 syringe graduations for every 1kg of bodyweight as a single dose every 2 to 4 months for adult cats and dogs and 1 syringe graduation per 1kg of bodyweight for 3 consecutive days for kittens and puppies under 6 months of age.
Adverse effects
Pets given Panacur Oral Paste may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Heavy breathing
- Itching
- Swelling of the face
- Lethargy
Contact a veterinarian immediately should side effects persist or worsen.
Warnings
Direct contact with the skin should be kept to a minimum. Always wear rubber gloves while administering the product and wash hands immediately after use.
Immediately proceed to the veterinarian if your pet suffers an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Panacur Oral Paste is not always suitable for all animals. Always consult your veterinarian prior to using this medication if your pet is pregnant, breastfeeding, breeding, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if it has any allergies or other health problems.
