What is Patanol Eye Drops?
Patanol Eye Drops containing the active ingredient olopatadine is considered an antihistamine. It works by blocking histamine, the substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms. It is used to treat symptoms of hay fever such as inflammation, itching, watering and burning eyes. It should not be used to treat eye irritation caused by contact lenses.
How is Patanol Eye Drops used?
Patanol Eye Drops should be used once or twice per day or as directed by a doctor. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient’s response to the medication. To apply the medication, tilt the head back slightly and pull down the lower lid of the eye to form a pocket. Hold the dropper above the affected eye, squeeze the dropper so a drop of medication falls into the pocket made by the lower eyelid. Close the eye for at least 2 minutes and place a finger on the inside corner of the eye to prevent the solution from getting into the tear ducts. Wait at least 5 minutes if additional drops are needed.
Adverse effects
Patients using Patanol Eye Drops may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Headaches
- Burning or stinging in the eyes
- Blurred vision
- Feeling something is in the eye
- Unusual or unpleasant taste in mouth
- Dry eyes
- Dizziness
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persists or worsen.
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Patanol Eye Drops is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed. |
