What is Penvir?
Penvir containing the active ingredient famciclovir is used to treat conditions caused by the herpes virus such as cold sores, shingles and genital herpes. It can also help reduce the number of future genital herpes outbreaks. The medication works by slowing the growth and spread of certain viruses in the body so the immune system can fight off the infection. The tablets can be used to treat and prevent herpes infections but cannot be used as a cure for the virus.
How is Penvir used?
Penvir is usually taken orally 2 to 3 times per day, at the first sign of an outbreak or as directed by a doctor. The tablets can be taken with or without food but should be taken with some water. Contact a doctor for the correct length of treatment and dosage as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient's response to the treatment. Try to take the medication at the same time each day as it will work better when the amount of the drug is kept at a constant level in the body.
