What is Pizaccord?
Pizaccord is used to treat patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The active ingredient pioglitazone hydrochloride is considered a thiazolidinedione type of antidiabetic drug. It can help control blood sugar levels in the body by increasing the body’s sensitivity to insulin. Regulating blood sugar levels can help prevent sexual function problems, loss of limbs, kidney damage, nerve problems and vision problems. Proper control of diabetes can also decrease the risk of a stroke or heart attack.
How is Pizaccord used?
Pizaccord should be taken orally as directed by a doctor, usually once per day. The tablets should be taken with a glass of water but can be taken with or without food. Dosage and length of treatment will depend on the patient's condition and their response to the therapy, contact a doctor for the correct dosage. The maximum recommended dosage is 45mg within a 24 hour period. Do not discontinue the medication without contacting a doctor as the full effects of the treatment may not be felt until after 2 to 3 months.
Adverse effects
Pizaccord may cause unwanted side effects such as:
- Excess gas
- Headaches
- Tooth problems
- Weight gain
- Muscle pain
- Sore throat
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Jaundice
- Painful or bloody urination
- Joint pain
- Erectile dysfunction
- Vision problems
- Oedema
Warnings
The medication should be used to treat patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes but should not be used to treat type 1 diabetes.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Pizaccord is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed. |
