What is Pletoz?
Pletoz containing the active ingredient cilostazol is considered an antiplatelets and vasodilator type of medication. It works by improving blood flow to the legs by keeping platelets in the blood from sticking together and clotting. It is used to treat symptoms of intermittent claudication such as muscle pain or cramps that occur during walking or exercising. Improving blood flow and the amount of oxygen that gets to the muscles can allow you to increase the distance you can walk before pain develops.
How is Pletoz used?
Pletoz is usually taken orally twice per day or as directed by a doctor. The medication is usually taken 30 minutes before or 2 hours after breakfast and dinner along with a full glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. You may not notice improvements in the condition immediately as the medication may take up to 12 weeks before full benefits are felt.
Adverse effects
Patients using Pletoz may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Headaches
- Diarrhea
- Dizziness
- Runny nose
- Nausea
- Muscle or stomach pain
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Swelling of the hands or feet
- Irregular heartbeats
- Vision problems
- Unusual bleeding or bruising
- Heartburn
- Signs of infection
Warnings
The medication can be used to treat intermittent claudication but cannot be used to cure it.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Pletoz is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
