What is Pletoz?
Pletoz containing the active ingredient cilostazol is considered an anti-platelet and a vasodilator type of medication. The medication can improve blood circulation by widening blood vessels in the legs and preventing blood cells from sticking together and clotting. The tablets are used to treat intermittent claudication, a condition caused by reduced blood flow to the legs that causes muscle pain or cramps during exercise or walking.
How is Pletoz used?
Pletoz is usually taken orally twice per day or as directed by a doctor. The medication should be taken on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes prior to or 2 hours after a meal. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. Do not be concerned if the patient does not feel the effects of the treatment right away as it may take up to 12 weeks before full benefits are felt.
Adverse effects
Pletoz may cause unwanted side effects such as:
- Stomach or muscle pain
- Nausea
- Runny nose
- Dizziness
- Diarrhea
- Headaches
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Signs of infection
- Heartburn
- Unusual bleeding or bruising
- Vision problems
- Irregular heartbeats
- Swelling of the hands or feet
Warnings
The medication can be used to treat intermittent claudication but cannot be used to cure it.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Pletoz is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
