What is Pramipex-0.5?
Pramipex containing the active ingredient pramipexole dihydrochloride can be used alone or along with other medications to treat Parkinson's disease. The medication can help restore mental balance by acting in place of dopamine. It can help decrease muscle spasms or stiffness, tremors and improve the ability to move. Some patients may also use the tablets to control unusual urges to move the legs in a condition called restless legs syndrome (RLS).
How is Pramipex-0.5 used?
Pramipex is usually taken once per day 2 to 3 hours before bedtime or as directed by a doctor. Take the tablets with some food along with a glass of water to prevent an upset stomach. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient's response to the medication. Do not discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor as abruptly stopping the treatment may cause a relapse in the patient's condition.
Adverse effects
Pramipex may cause unwanted side effects such as:
- Headaches
- Drowsiness
- Decreased sex drive or performance
- Dizziness
- Insomnia
- Nausea
- Loss of appetite or weight loss
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Dark colored urine
- Chest pain
- Vision problems
- Muscle pain or weakness
- Confusion
- Fainting
- Hallucinations
- Irregular heartbeat
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Pramipex-0.5 is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
