What is Premarin?
Premarin is a hormone replacement therapy used by women who do not produce enough estrogen naturally. The tablets contain conjugated estrogen, a mixture of estrogens obtained from natural sources. The medication can be used in the treatment of menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes and vaginal burning, irritation or dryness. Some women may also use it as part of cancer treatment or to prevent osteoporosis (bone loss) after passing menopause.
How is Premarin used?
Premarin should be taken orally as directed by a doctor, usually once per day. To prevent an upset stomach, the tablets should be taken with or just after a meal. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient's condition and their response to the therapy. The doctor may tell you to do self examinations or schedule regular physical exams for breast lumps while using the medication.
