What is Premia Continuous?
Premia Continuous is used as a combination hormone therapy to reduce the symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, burning and irritation caused by the body making less oestrogen. The medication contains 2 female sex hormones, conjugated oestrogens, an oestrogen and medroxyprogesterone, a progesterone type of medication. It can also be used to decrease the risk of uterus cancer and prevent post menopausal osteoporosis (thinning of the bones).
How is Premia Continuous used?
Premia Continuous should be taken orally only as directed by a doctor. The medication should be taken with or just after some food along with a glass of water to prevent an upset stomach. Contact a doctor for the correct start date, treatment cycle and dosage as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient’s response to the therapy. The tablets should be taken whole and not chewed, broken or split before swallowing.
Adverse effects
Premia Continuous may cause unwanted side effects such as:
- Breast tenderness or pain
- Hair loss
- Headaches
- Bloating
- Vomiting
- Nausea
- Upset stomach
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Blood clots in blood vessels
- Decreased sex drive
- Breast lump
- Jaundice
- Unusual vaginal bleeding or discharge
- Mental or mood changes
- Unusual or rapid weight changes
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Premia Continuous is not always suitable for all patients.
