What is Primolut-N?
Primolut-N containing the active ingredient norethisterone is a synthetic form of progesterone, a naturally occurring female sex hormone. The medication is used as hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to treat conditions such as painful or heavy periods, delaying menstrual periods, premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and endometriosis. It works by mimicking the natural effects of progesterone to help regulate the healthy growth and normal shedding of the womb lining.
How is Primolut-N used?
Primolut-N is usually taken orally on selected days of the menstrual cycle as directed by a doctor. The medication can be taken with or without food but should be taken with a glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage, start date and treatment cycle as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient’s response to the therapy. The tablets should be swallowed whole and not crushed, chewed or broken prior to consumption.
Adverse effects
Patients using Primolut-N may encounter unwanted side effects such as:

- Arm or leg pain
- Nausea
- Bloating
- Mental or mood changes
- Decreased sex drive
- Changes in menstrual bleeding
- Dizziness
- Visual disturbance
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or worsen.
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Primolut-N is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
