What is Prograf?
Prograf containing the active ingredient tacrolimus belongs to a class of medications called immunosuppressants. It works by decreasing the activity and weaken the immune system to prevent it from attacking any transplanted organs. It can be used alone or with other medication to prevent the body from rejecting a heart, kidney or liver transplant.
How is Prograf used?
Prograf is usually taken orally twice daily evenly spaced 12 hours apart or as directed by a doctor. The capsule can be taken with or without food but it will need to be taken the same way every time so the body always absorbs the same amount of the drug. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on your weight, medical condition, blood test results and response to the medication. Do not discontinue the medication or increase dosage without contacting a doctor as the risk of serious side effects may be increased.
