What is Prograf?
Prograf works by decreasing the activity and weaken the immune system to prevent it from attacking any transplanted organs. The active ingredient tacrolimus is classified as an immunosuppressant type of medication. It can be used alone or along with other medication to help prevent the body from rejecting a liver, kidney or heart transplant.
How is Prograf used?
Prograf should be taken as directed by a doctor, usually twice daily evenly spaced 12 hours apart. The capsule can be taken with or without food but will need to be taken the same way each time to maintain the same level of medication in the body. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient's condition, weight, blood test results and their response to the medication.
